The experience

You board at the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos and head out along the coast, cruising the same waters that wrap around the back of Manuel Antonio National Park. It is a relaxed five hours on the water, with a guide on board to point out wildlife and the islands, cliffs, and rock formations the Central Pacific is known for.

Have a camera ready. Between the coastline scenery and the chance of dolphins running alongside the boat, there is usually plenty to shoot.

After touring the coastline, the captain sets anchor at Biesanz Bay, a calm, sheltered spot. You can snorkel over the reef, swim, or just stay aboard and soak up the sun. Underwater you are likely to see parrotfish, starfish, and angelfish, and dolphins sometimes follow the boat along the way.

A barbecue lunch is served on board while you take in the views, with snacks and drinks available throughout the trip. No experience is needed, and life jackets are on hand for anyone who wants one. To pair it with time on land, add our guided walk through Manuel Antonio National Park.
